I love when stores have GLBTI people in mind
Today I’m going to shamelessly promote a new online store that is opening soon in Australia. Inner Subversion.
Inner Subversion caters to the GLBTI community (particularly the genderqueer and transgender community), the straight alternative community and the cross dressing community. All alternative communities are catered for: metal, gothic, punk, cyber punk, cyber goth, steampunk and emo.
The history behind Inner Subversion is:
The individuals behind Inner Subversion are a bunch of people that believe that you should be able to make your way in the world regardless of how you look or who you are. Our team are tattooed, pierced up the wazoo, covered in crazy coloured hair and we love every last one of them to bits!
We believe that clothing should be universal and to hell with the gender binaries- which is why we don’t categorise our clothing into male or female genres. We embrace you no matter if you’re in a skirt or pants, size 8 through 28, male, female or anyone in between.
Our staff work and have worked with the disadvantaged, not for profits, charities, youth and LGBTIQ communities, so we are all about welcoming all walks of life. We even welcome you, misguided Justin Bieber fans, if only to school you all proper like on actual music. But regardless of your age, sexuality, gender identity, race, size or sub-culture; from our customers to our staff we include everyone in our tribe.
We combine our knowledge of technology and business with our love of the alternative lifestyle to bring you a store that has a clean design, awesome functionality to help you find your perfect look, and some upcoming features that are going to blow your skeleton stockings right off!
Their About Us makes me want to go out and mosh in the streets:
It’s More Than The Threads.
We believe the alternative runs deeper than just clothing on your skin. It’s an artistic statement. A political message. A proclamation to the world that this is who you are and this is where you stand.
It’s A Lifestyle.
We see you. You are the family in arms in the mosh pit. The helping hand to do up a wayward lace on a corset. The night owls at the clubs. Even the ones who are hiding in the shadows, afraid to come out. We see you. We know you. We embrace you.
It’s An Attitude.
It’s the middle fingered salute to those who put you down, it’s the lighter in the air at a concert. It is the all-encompassing “Fuck you, this is me, and I am running this show my way” you declare to the populace as you step outside in your favourite shit-kicker boots and your spikes. It is your confidence, your self worth, your power that goes beyond your clothes.
It’s A Calling.
We believe that it’s about creating a community of like-minded individuals who create, who destroy and everything in between to come together to form a chaotic synergy. We are the designers, we are the observers, the music makers and the music lovers. We are the pioneers and revolutionaries, and we come from every walk of life; every shape, every size, every gender, every sexuality, every you that is out there, searching. We welcome you all to our space.
Subvert Your Inner Universe,
It starts from within. That simple spark, that ignites everything you are and you become aware of the power you hold. We will provide the armour, you provide the attitude. Slip into the corset without fear, step into the tartan pants with confidence. We are here to equip and empower you to look your best, so you feel your best, to become your best.
And Change Your Outer World.
We are the great achievers and we know that we can do great things in our time whether we are covered in piercings and canvassed in ink. Our alternative isn’t what sets us back, it’s what sets us apart.
I do adore things that shake up the status-quo and I really like stores that not only promote acceptance of alternative subcultures but inclusion for the GLBTI community.
Feel free to give them some love our at their facebook page and watch the countdown timer on their website for their grand opening on the 1st of March.
