The advantages and disadvantages of being you: privilege vs oppression

Everyone has disadvantages and advantages in their lives based on aspects of who they are. Some disadvantages will override the advantages greatly and some advantages override the disadvantages greatly but just because a person may have advantages in their lives – doesn’t invalidate or negate the disadvantages in their lives. We should be able to discuss our disadvantages while remembering the advantages we still have so we don’t step over or render over peoples disadvantages invisible in an effort to make ours seem like the only one in existence. If you are a person who had disadvantages the affect your life greatly – I hope you have a great support system and friends and family who have your back.

The complexity that is the Marvel Cinematic Universe

marvel

X-men Days of Future Past has a great opportunity to get the X-men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If Logan goes back in time to help stop the Sentinels (which is placed around 2025) – he could very well come back to the present day (that could possibly be 2013 - at least when Magneto and Xavier approached Logan at the end of The Wolverine) and find himself in an alternate time-line (being the Marvel Cinematic Universe). Agents of Shield being the tie in to all the movies could have the 084′s as mutants. The Cinematic Universe could very well be the time line where Professor X gets shot – meaning no conflict between him and Erik – with Erik as the leader of the X-men, opening up for an Age of Apocalypse storyline and a reboot. Bryan Singer has confirmed an Apocalypse film in 2016 but will it tie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Children are sponges that shouldn’t be neglected

critical-thinking

As I’ve discussed time and time againparenthood is a choice. Not too many people can see this. It’s not surprising given the large amount of pressure to conform the social standards the general population is under. Especially if you’re an opposite sex couple.

Alternative Medicine: How it exploits the masses

Last post I deconstructed the underpinning framework that is the homeopathy industry. Given the overflowing amount of blatant woo, quackery and appeals to nature embedded in homeopathic “philosophy” – the mind boggles how people can still swallow this tripe.

So today I thought I’d have a look at some of the reasons as to why homeopathy and the alternative medicine industry continue to be a multi-billion dollar industry despite being nothing more than magic water, magical thinking and unproven assertions. This article mainly focusses on homeopathy however many of the tactics used by homeopathy can be found used in other strains of alt med.

Quotes from the mouths of Christians

Atheism

As you may or may not know, yesterday and this morning I was engaged in a conversation with several Christians. In the interest of finding out what they believed in, I played dumb to their attempts at converting me – a tactic which presented some very disturbing information.

You can find the original transcript of my Facebook interaction here.

“I used to think that babies were sinless. We are sinful from conception.”

Note: The title refers to two quotes by the same person featured within this transcript.

I’m currently engaged in a conversation with a religious woman on my Facebook, which has quickly turned into a conversation with a few different Christians. It was originally an attempt to understand the original posters thought on the glaring plot holes within the Bible. Suffice to say, I didn’t realise it was quickly going to turn into a four person tag-team conversion attempt.

It’s now turned into a Facebook messaging session. This is going to be quite a long post. I’m posting the transcript here so I can use my next post as an opportunity to analyse the transcript and their thought processes. Check out that post here.

Warning: May cause your eyes to melt in an attempt to save themselves.
